song (album) log... #1?

FAIR WARNING: i'm not a music guru or anything so i will definitely get the proper terms and stuff wrong, i'm just someone who loves to listen music.. haha...

new font for this.. or these logs. it's been a while :P life... has been happening. anyways! these are usually going to be just for songs, but since this just came out and i've genuinely been waiting for it for a week... i'm doing the songs i like in the album. ^_^

so as it happens, i discovered these guys what... on sunday? (26/07/26), and i was genuinely so enamored by what i was seeing and listening to; i saw their teasers for this exact album and went down a loop hole, watching their tinydesk, and their old songs- which i ended up liking a lot, a favourite being 'U DON'T HAVE TO ROB ME'.
i'm lowkey a big fan of their general sound, it almost has a nostalgic feeling to it, or to me anyways, and the general pace / rhythm... to it is something i've enjoyed for as long as i can remember. i thought it was insanely cool watching Domi play like 2 pianos and bass at the same time, as well as JD playing the drums in such a way that ignited my love for that instrument again. (i've always thought drums were kinda insane having grown up playing a lot of GH3 and listening to some rock...)

anyways to the album! this shit is insane dude. i'm still new to these guys, so i didn't know that the songs would have lyrics paired with the instrumental, especially after watching videos of them saying they 'cant sing'... WOAH!!!!!!!!!!
they BOTH sound so so so good it scratches my brain differently like... obviously JD's voice is on the forefront, but Domi's voice is so lovely too. i'm lowkey an instrumental person when it comes to listening to songs, simply because i grew up playing games, and then moved onto osu! (rhythm game) during... let's say formative years haha, leading me to listen to literally 80% instrumental type songs, and that never really left me, not really a 'try new stuff' type of person.
i will also say, that i can now completely understand why they said this album is kind of like 'one big song'... i see it now.

now onto the songs i like from this album:
  1. GROWiNG OLDER
  2. HAD ENOUGH
  3. SiLHOUETTE
  4. LOVELY MASQUERADE
  5. PUZZLE PiECES
  6. OUT OF SYNC
  7. RAiN
  8. SOME THiNGS NEVER CHANGE
now, i like a lot more than just these, but theses are the top few out of the whole album !
NOT in order either, i'd need A LOT more listens before i could do that... ;3;

comparison time:
and when i say this, i mean to the teaser versions of the song, not anything else like that.

PUZZLE PiECES
now i will preface this by saying that it doesn't actually sound much different at all...!
this specific part from the teaser comes at the end of the song, and it sounds good regardless; maybe just not as audible as i thought it would be...? it's kinda drowned out by the other stuff going on (or should i say the drums arent as audible anyways), but it kinda fits the song so i'm not mad about it at all.. i like the vocals on this song :3
GROWiNG OLDER
on my WHOLE LIFE before this full song even dropped i knew this was going to be my favorite on the album. i was bumping to this teaser for a week STRAIGHT and it's not hard to understand why.
afrobeats. it has a very afrobeat-esque beat behind it and hell putting it bluntly, being black, ts got me moving immediately.
i literally had to like research at first cause i thought i was going crazy but no, JD said himself in an interview that he was getting into 'african electronic music' and was already into hip-hop (IIRC DON'T QUOTE ME !!!!)
but just incase, here's the interview... u can go and skim... LINK.
and the vocals are so SO good, i really like this song; specifically the chorus:
"Days cascading out of sight, Younger ways like fleeting light"
OUUGHHH TAKE ME NOW HIS VOICE IS REALLY GOOD?
something about songs like these just. they just make me contemplate life. but in a good way for once.

RAiN
this is also an insane song. really nice vocals and instrumental once more!!
and again, this part of the teaser is at the end of the song; and i dont think the change actually makes a difference here...? it still sounds really really good imo, i think the only noticeable difference for me was the fact that the part at the start where Domi went absolutely nuclear on the piano was kinda cut...? but other than that it's really good still :3 im glad they didn't end up changing the drums this time either.

OUT OF SYNC
quite a unique sounding song that i actually like quite a bit...
it's weird to put this into words, but listening to this kinda feels like im on a timer and i'm running out of time haha.
(which im actually starting to believe is the point, after reading the lyrics.. :eyes:)
the change from higher BPM to suddenly slowing down feels nice to listen to as well, and their voices ending up actually... syncing... it's a really nice listen.
"It's out of hand, oscillating, Rhythm breaking out of your control."

EXiT
another unique sounding song :0 i think this is pretty insane too.
lovely vocals once more... but i feel like Domi really shines here, despite JD sounding really really good here too; her voice just sounds crazy on this track. I also dont think it sounds much different from the teaser at all, this might be the only one that actually sounds the same haha.

SOME THiNGS NEVER CHANGE
i genuinely do not want to hear any of them say they can't sing after this album, in any interview or anything ever. deadass.
this song is really good too, JD sounds so good throughout, i'm a fan of his singing voice... very 'comforting' if that makes sense? and Domi just sounds like a dream, i love it all. this sounds almost exactly like the teaser, besides the cymbal slams, literally the exact same at the start and end. YEAH!!!!

I think i have successfully identified all the teasers besides ONE(1), but it wasn't in my list so i'm not too bothered about it :3 there are some special mentions though:
  1. HAD ENOUGH:
the chorus genuinely sounds like / has the same melody as the 'Balamory' theme song (if you're british you should know what im talking about) and it instilled disgusting amount of nostalgia within me i felt my eyes water. shits crazy. good song anyways!
  2. LOVELY MASQUERADE:
lives in the same bracket as GROWiNG OLDER. the beat. i'm moving. on my feet actually. JD sounds good as HELL on this song too... god bless.

all of this to basically say... go listen !!! idc if you've never heard a song like any of these before, i strongly recommend.
edit: i've also come to realize the reason i like this album so much is because of how much it induces that nostalgic feeling within me... it also reminds me of two of my favourite movies (coraline and ponyo) :3 how lovely
